I recently I joined "The Daring Bakers", I don't know why I hadn't heard of them before... here's how they started [as explained on their website]:
The Daring Bakers: A History
In November 2006, Lisa of La Mia Cucina and Ivonne of Cream Puffs in Venice decided to challenge themselves to bake pretzels for the very first time using the same recipe. They each went ahead and posted about it on November 18, 2006.
Having enjoyed that experience tremendously, they decided to try it again the next month, this time choosing to bake biscotti. And to make matters even better, they were joined by a few more food bloggers.
As the months went by, their baking group continued to grow, until it was finally decided that this "little baking group" had to have a name and The Daring Bakers were born!
Today, The Daring Bakers span the world as bakers of all nationalities come together once a month to try something new in the kitchen!
I was kinda disappointed because I was expecting to bake a dessert [I had seen posts of previous challenges and they all involved sugar. yum] instead I ended up baking a lasagne. I had to make pasta verde from scratch and even though I stayed up till 3am making the lasagna [I am a late night baker but I didn't know making the pasta would take so much time!] I had fun and will definitely try making homemade pasta again [Music man loves pasta].
I'm so ashamed to be posting a day late =( I don't know why I thought the posting date was March 30th when in fact the posting date was March 29th. I went to the website today to make sure I comply with all the guidelines to posting the challenges [u wont believe how organized and structured the Daring Bakers are] and when I saw that I was a day late I wanted to die. My first challenge and I'm already breaking the rules O__O'. Immediately I wrote an email to Lis and Ivonne, 8 minutes later Ivonne replied my email saying "It’s not a problem, Yuri.. no worries. :) Go ahead and post today." PHEEEEW!!! What a relief =)
The March 2009 challenge is hosted by Mary of Beans and Caviar, Melinda of Melbourne Larder and Enza of Io Da Grande. They have chosen Lasagne of Emilia-Romagna from The Splendid Table by Lynne Rossetto Kasper as the challenge.
Now I proudly present the making of my first challenge as a Daring Baker:
